The $30 Dimmable Nightstand Lamp I Can't Stop Recommending

By Haven & Home|January 8, 2026|7 min read|Last updated: January 2026

I had a $140 Pottery Barn ceramic lamp on my nightstand for two years before the socket started buzzing. Not a quiet hum, a genuinely annoying electric buzz that got worse at low brightness. I called Pottery Barn, got passed between two representatives, and ended up with a $40 credit toward a replacement. That was when I decided to stop paying three-figure prices for a lamp I use to read for 15 minutes a night.

I wanted something with a USB port for charging my phone, a touch dimmer instead of a clicky switch, and a shape that didn't look like it came from a dorm room. Most Amazon lamps in the $25-$40 range looked cheap in photos and turned out to look cheap in person. Then I bought this one on a whim because the mushroom shape was trending on design Instagram, and now it's been on my nightstand for three months and I've bought two more for my partner and my guest room.

The Lamp

Fenmzee Mushroom Dimmable Bedside Lamp

Fenmzee Mushroom Dimmable Bedside Lamp

$30

(8,400+)

Mushroom-shaped bedside lamp with 3-level touch dimmer and USB-C charging port. Warm 2700K LED bulb included. 10.5 in. tall. Available in cream, sage, black, and terracotta.

Three things make this lamp punch way above its price. First, the touch dimmer is genuinely good. Three brightness levels that you cycle through by tapping the metal base, and the lowest level is dim enough to read by without blasting light across the room (a problem with most "dimmable" budget lamps that just have two settings, bright and slightly less bright). Second, the USB-C port on the base means I don't need a separate phone dock on my nightstand. Third, the shape. Mushroom lamps are having a moment, and the cream version of this one looks genuinely designer without trying to pretend to be a $400 piece.

Why I Can't Stop Recommending It

I've bought three total now. Two more after the original because I kept talking about it, and twice my partner or a friend said "just send me the link." Both follow-up purchases came back with the same review: the dimmer works, the light is warm instead of blue, and it looks more expensive than it is. When multiple people report the same experience, that's usually not a coincidence.

The warm 2700K bulb that it comes with is a bigger deal than people realize. Most cheap lamps ship with 4000K bulbs that are too blue for a bedroom, then people wonder why their room feels like a waiting room. 2700K is the warm yellow-amber temperature that makes rooms feel cozy, and you don't have to buy a separate bulb to get it.

What I Pair It With

Yarra Decor Bedside Lamp with USB Touch

Yarra Decor Bedside Lamp with USB Touch

$36

(12,000+)

Touch control bedside lamp with USB port and 3-level dimming. Fabric shade with hardwired cord. 13.5 in. tall. Natural linen or charcoal shade options.

Shop on Amazon

I have this one on the other side of my bed (my partner's side) because we wanted a slightly larger lamp on that nightstand to balance a taller headboard. The Yarra is 13.5 inches tall vs. the mushroom's 10.5, and the linen shade gives off a softer spread of light. The dimmer works identically (three touch levels) and it also has USB-A charging. If the mushroom is sold out or not your style, this is the direct substitute.

The Rug That Finished the Look

One thing I realized after the lamp was that my bedside area was dark at floor level, even with the lamp at full brightness. A small rug with a warm tone made the whole corner feel lived-in instead of like a hotel room.

Besketie Floor Lamp Dimmable (Backup Lighting)

Besketie Floor Lamp Dimmable (Backup Lighting)

$65

(3,200+)

Floor lamp with dimmable LED and adjustable gooseneck. USB charging port on base. 60 in. tall. Warm light 3000K. Works well next to a reading chair or nightstand corner.

Shop on Amazon

Not technically a nightstand lamp, but worth mentioning because I ended up pairing this floor lamp with the mushroom in my bedroom corner for layered light. When I'm reading in bed, I use the mushroom alone. When I'm getting ready in the morning or hanging out in the room, I click on both and the whole room gets a warm glow. Layered lighting (one task light, one ambient) is the difference between a bedroom that feels flat and one that feels intentional.

A Smart Alternative

Smart Bedside Lamp with Wireless Charger

Smart Bedside Lamp with Wireless Charger

$55

(4,100+)

Bedside lamp with built-in 10W wireless charging pad, USB-A port, and touch dimmer. Works with Alexa and Google Home. 12 in. tall. Minimalist white finish.

Shop on Amazon

If you want to go all-in on consolidating your nightstand, this one has a wireless charging pad on the base. Set your phone on top of the lamp and it charges while you sleep. The voice control is the kind of thing you'll use constantly for about two weeks and then forget about, but the wireless charging is the legitimately useful feature. At $55, it costs more than the mushroom, but you're also replacing a phone dock and a charger, so it nets out.

Budget Backup

Small Bedside Lamp with USB

Small Bedside Lamp with USB

$24

(6,800+)

Compact bedside lamp with USB-A port and 3-step touch dimmer. 8 in. tall with fabric drum shade. Bulb included. White or black options.

Shop on Amazon

If $30 is still more than you want to spend or your nightstand is tiny, this 8-inch version has most of the same features (touch dimmer, USB port, warm bulb) in a smaller footprint for $24. I have this one in my guest room. It's objectively less pretty than the mushroom but functionally similar, and the small size fits on tiny nightstands where a taller lamp would look off-balance.

The Wood-Touch Variant

Dicoool Wood Touch Bedside Lamp

Dicoool Wood Touch Bedside Lamp

$32

(5,300+)

Wood base bedside lamp with touch control, USB-A port, and linen shade. Three brightness levels. 12 in. tall. Natural wood or walnut stain.

Shop on Amazon

If your bedroom leans warmer or more organic (think wood furniture, earth tones, less white), the mushroom lamp's smooth ceramic finish might feel off. This wood-base version is the direct replacement for anyone whose aesthetic is closer to warm minimalist than cool modern. Same price range, same touch dimmer, same USB port, different vibe.

Quick Tips

  • Always check the bulb temperature. 2700K for bedrooms, 3000K for living rooms, 4000K+ for kitchens and offices. Most budget lamps ship with the wrong bulb.
  • Touch dimmers only work if the lamp has a metal base you touch. Lamps with plastic or ceramic bases need a pass-through cord dimmer instead.
  • USB-A is slower than USB-C. If you have a newer phone, prioritize lamps with USB-C.
  • Match lamp height to your nightstand. The bottom of the shade should be roughly at your eye level when sitting up in bed.
  • Buy one extra bulb when you order. LED bulbs in budget lamps last 3-5 years, but when they go, you don't want to wait two days for a replacement.

I'm not a person who gets emotionally attached to lamps. But I've recommended this one to so many people at this point that I figured I might as well write it down. If you're still using a lamp that buzzes, a clicky pull-chain, or one that doesn't dim, this is the one to replace it with.
