The Best Arc Floor Lamp for Small Living Rooms

By Haven & Home|July 14, 2025|4 min read|Last updated: July 2025

When I moved into my current apartment, my living room was 11 by 12 feet with zero overhead lighting and one wall outlet in the wrong place. I tried a table lamp. Too small. I tried a regular floor lamp in the corner. Too shadowy. What I actually needed was an arc lamp — something that could reach OVER the couch and light the seating area from above, without putting a base right where my feet go.

The problem with most arc lamps is they're built for mansions. A 72-inch arm sweeping into the middle of a small room feels like a crane. I spent a few weekends swapping options before I landed on one that worked. Here are the five I tested, ranked by how they actually performed in a room this size.

The One I Kept: Brightech Sparq Hanging Arc Lamp

This is the lamp that stayed. It has a 66-inch arm — shorter than most — and a hanging pendant shade instead of a side-spray, which keeps the light pool tight and downward. No glare into the TV, no light leaking into the kitchen.

I put it behind my sofa, on the side that faces the armchair, and the arm arcs exactly over the seat I read in. The marble-look base is heavier than it looks (a good thing in a small space — it doesn't tip if the dog runs past).

The Budget Pick That Surprised Me

I almost didn't order this one because it looked flimsy in the photos. It's not. The arm is a single curved piece (no wobbly joints) and the shade is a soft fabric drum that gives off warmer, cozier light than the metal ones. At $62, it's the lamp I'd buy for a guest room or a second reading nook.

Addlon Modern Arc Floor Lamp

The One for Tiny Side Tables

If your room is really small — studio apartment, dorm, reading nook — and you don't have floor space for a big base, this mini arc sits on a side table or even a shelf. It's a smaller silhouette version of the big arc look, and it gives the same "light coming from above" effect without stealing square footage.

The Statement Piece I'd Save For

This one is more sculptural — thicker arm, heavier base, real brass finish (not spray paint). It's the one that makes people walk in and say "where did you get that?" But at $229, I only recommend it if you KNOW this is your forever apartment style. For a rental, I'd stick with the Brightech.

The Reading-Focused Pick

If your main goal isn't "pretty ambient light" but "I need to actually read without squinting," this arc has a task-head you can angle. The LED is built in (no bulb hunt), it dims to five levels, and the arm pivots 180 degrees so you can point it at a book or aim it up at the ceiling for mood light.

Besketie LED Arc Floor Lamp Dimmable

$79

(5,600+)

Built-in LED (no bulb replacement), 5 brightness levels, 3 color temps, remote included, 63 in. reach.

What I'd Buy First

  • If you want the best overall for under $150, get the Brightech Sparq
  • If you want cheap and surprisingly good, get the Addlon
  • If you read every night, get the Besketie for the built-in dimmer
  • If floor space is truly tiny, get the Mini Arc for a side table

Measure your sofa length BEFORE you order. Most arcs reach 60 to 72 inches — if your sofa is longer than that, the arm won't clear the far end and the lamp ends up looking off-center.
