Not stain. Anything that gets sprayed near the table can't leave residue on the tablecloth, the food, or guests. Skip anything oil-based that goes airborne.

Not require constant babysitting. A good setup runs in the background. You light it, set it, and forget it — not relight every twenty minutes.

Coordinate with the table aesthetic. A bug zapper that looks like a gas station purchase ruins the dinner regardless of how well it works. The best options look like part of the decor.
